In New York City, 1961, amid the Cold War, Dag Hammarskjöld, the charismatic UN Secretary-General, is at the height of his influence. Committed to post- colonial peace in Africa, he opposes those exploiting the continent’s resources. His world shifts when an old friend, Peter, arrives, causing Dag to question his intense dedication to his role. Following the death of UN peacekeepers in the Congo, Dag decides to lead the UN troops on their first combat mission to enforce peace. Aware of potential threats against him, he boards a plane for a final attempt at negotiating a cease-fire.
